About Crooks Genealogy
UPDATE: Monday, Oct 23, 2023. . . still pecking away at this. Will add to it as I can find the time. Stay tuned!! Don

WELCOME! It's Thursday, Jan 30, 2020: I have started this again, going to give it another run. A big hello to my new grandson, LUCAS WESLEY CROOKS, a brother for Nora!!

I am going to try and flesh out some missing pieces, so if you find something you like, or have additional info (or corrections) please send me a message. Any new stuff is welcome.

. . . and here we go!!

Hello all. I'm still alive and kickin'. I've just added the newest member of the family to the site. I know Mom and Dad would be thrilled as I introduce . . . NORA KATHLEEN CROOKS!! Congratulations to Patrick and Ashley!!

Welcome to the new site for my Crooks Genealogy. I have taken my search back as far as I could, at least for now. For the last 10 plus years, I've been working on this project, off and on. I want to thank all those who have given me whatever information they had, it is greatly appreciated. Perhaps none have been as helpful as my mother, who passed away in May 2008. She was a gold mine of knowledge. We spent many hours going over the "details" that only she could provide. To her, I dedicate this web-site.

I now add my father to the dedication of this site. Dad passed away on Oct 09, 2010. He, too, was able to fill in many gaps in the history of our family.

Along with family information, I found that the recently launched Nova Scotia Vital Statistics site was an excellent source for getting names, dates and making connections. Please use the link provided to further your research.

While I have tried to concentrate on the CROOKS name, I still have many names to add to the site from the ACKER connections on the south shore. I have just added names from the HENDERSON / SANGSTER (my mother's mother's family) family. Many thanks to Lorraine Tate, who supplied me with an almost insurmountable amount of information.

To the best of my ability, I think that I have followed the path back to John Crooks, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia in the 1750's. From there, I guess that I will have to "set sail from these shores" to see where it leads me. If anyone browsing this site can assist, please contact me.

If anyone has a picture of any of the people found on this site who do not currently have a photo here, I would appreciate receiving a copy by e-mail to add to the site. I would really like pics of anyone in my "direct" line.

October 12, 2012: I'm baacckk. Thanks to Bob Hull, Ester Baker-Duggan, Christina Allain (Simms)for the new info I've added tonight. I'd love to get more details and info.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
